Some writers are territorial by nature; they see selling books as a zero-sum-game, meaning any books sold by someone else is an opportunity lost for them. I don’t see it that way, and neither do pretty much all the authors I had the pleasure of spending time with at two recent book-selling events: the Bucks County Book Festival, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania; and A Day of Wine, Romance, and More in Columbia, New Jersey. The Doylestown event was phenomenal. Sure, I sold a good number of books, but I got to spend a glorious afternoon with local readers and some talented writers I have come to know as friends: LCW Allingham, Chris Bauer, River Eno, Michael Pogach, and Linda Wisniewski, among others. At A Day of Wine, Romance, and More, I shared a table with fellow horror writer Lisa Hodorovych, chewing the fat about Godzilla, Star Wars, and, of course, writing. I also caught up with some old friends from the Creatures, Crimes & Creativity (C3) con: Carol Gyzander, Teel James Glenn, Roz Lee, Sharon Buchbinder, Jeff Markowitz, Austin Camacho, and Michael J. McLaughlin. It was a tiring weekend, but an invigorating one. I hope for more of those.
