Fellow author and good guy Jason A. Meuschke recently welcomed me onto his rad podcast, The Sample Chapter, to talk about the horror films that scared us (and scarred us), the curious “magic” of storytelling, and why love stories and horror stories go hand in hand. Jason is a fantastic interviewer, and our conversation felt very natural. The following week he brought me back in to read a chapter from my recent novel, FIND YOUR WAY BACK TO ME. Here’s a link to the episode of me reading the novel’s pivotal Chapter 7, “Angels and Devils.”

I have done plenty of readings, but never have I had to record myself reading my own work. (From 2005 to 2008, I did the occasional TV spot as part of my job as a business reporter. Those outtakes were legendary for my missteps and resulting profanity.) The process gave me a new appreciation for the folks who record audio books or otherwise use their voice to make a living. Incidentally, Chapter 7 includes a number of medical terms I had to double check the pronunciation. It turns out I had been mispronouncing one of the words, bradykinin, for quite a while.
